This is the Ksar Ouled Soltane version of the Tataouine day, and the distinction matters more than it sounds. Ouled Soltane is the four-storey granary courtyard whose stacked vaulted cells appear in The Phantom Menace — a genuinely startling building that photographs better than almost anything else in the south. The itinerary reaching it is different from the Ksar Hadada route sold by other operators on the same island.

You leave Djerba by the old Roman causeway, stop at Chahbania for salt-flat photographs, and reach Tataouine in time to spend free time in the market. The town's name is the reason the planet is called Tatooine.

Chenini gets roughly an hour with a guide from the village, who takes you through the oil mill, the mosque, the granary and the houses cut into the ridge. That hour is the part reviewers consistently single out, though a few note that the guiding is not always in strong English — the vehicle guide and the village guide are different people.
